Making Decisions About Retirement

Decisions, Decisions, Decisions. You make them all the time at work and about your personal life. The list is endless. Make one decision and move to the next.  Are you making decisions about retirement?

Chances are, your decision to retire is one that has not been easy. Maybe you haven’t made it yet.

Why is it so hard to decide about retirement? It seems like there are just too many choices and decisions to make. No matter how badly you want to take that step, it feels overwhelming to get started.

It’s like shopping for a basket at a big, outdoor market. There are lots of great things that catch your eye but you can’t figure out which one to buy. When there are too many choices to consider, sometimes you just say, “forget it.” The decision not to choose anything is easier than thinking too much about it.

It can be like that for retirement. Except after a certain point, deciding not to choose doesn’t make your life easier. By not deciding, it makes it harder.

So you say, “I’ll make the decision after I finish the BIG project.” If you were at the market, you’d say, “I’ll pick the basket I want NEXT time.” So there you are with no decision and no basket. But you really want to make a decision. Just like you really  wanted one of those baskets.

Put it out of your mind for a while,  but the thoughts come racing back.  As a result, there you go again, wishing you could just get started and get that retirement thing figured out.

Break the cycle of indecision and get help.  Contact Retirement Style and ask for a complementary retirement consultation. We can get you moving forward.
